Crf150r Maintenance and other questions!
  • Ok so I have decided to go with the Honda crf150r! (I think) I just need to know a few things. 1.) I currently have the trail version and usually the only maintenance I have to do is usually clean the air filter, tighten the chain, fill tires up, etc. I only ride trails and do the maintenance like once or twice a year. How much more maintenance is there on the racing version than the trail version and how often? 2.) I usually ride my bike at my property and the neighbors are Amish so they could care less about the loudness. But if they do start to care how loud is the racing bike compared to the trail version? Also won't an fmf pipe silent it a bit? Thanks in advance!

you should definitely service your bike more, no matter what kind of riding you're doing, I change my oil, oil filter, transmission oil, air filter after every ride,on a race bike you have pretty much the same maintenance, but twice a year is kind of neglecting it. you can get a silencer for any pipe, the race bike will be a little louder because there's nothing in the muffler, you're not going to be happy with a race bike in the trails, the rpms are different because of the flywheel, the gears are different, its made for high rpms not putting in trails. I tell you this because I have a crf450r I also do trail riding, you will not be happy with it..you said you have Trail version so im thinking you have a crf000r of something.. if you're only trail riding stick with the X models Honda makes.or get a 4 wheeler.the race bikes are mx bikes there made for the track.read some of my post and u will hear me crying about it.. just bad days but take heed to my words you will regret buying a mx bike for the trails,

Most aftermarket pipes are louder, buy a silencer for stock one

Thanks for all the quick comments guys! I still have a few questions though. Sean you say that you change your oil, air filter, tranni oil after every time your riding on your race bike. Say if I were to do all this stuff after every 2 weeks of riding. Would that be too long or would that be fine? Thanks again!

every trio weeks is bit of an over kill for trail riding.once every two months is more than plenty.before you ride check fluids, tire pressures, andfeel the tires for any foreign matter,etc.. .after you ride, let the bike cool, clean it and check your over.it's good to release the extra air from the forks as well.these little extras are for any bike,so when you do upgrade you will ensure good maintained equipment.

the manual says every 5 hours,,these bikes use the oil up quick, and keeping up with maintenance will add life to your valve jobs and top end rebuilds,,, personally I think trail riding is harder on the bike then a track, your on track for what 45 minutes? You trail, ride for hours and you gun it every chance you get,you go through big mud puddles, you ride clutch depending how tight the trail is,mx bike overheat if they dont have enough air flowing through the radiators,I think your better off with a crf 250 x im not trying to mock you lemon but I think a month or 2 is nuts for a mx bike..mx bikes have light flywheels which means high rpm range that little bit of oil 0.66 qt is not much, then you have tranny side and the 80/85w gear oil will last longer then the motor oil... I am NOT a mechanic, this is from my experiences on my bikes,,the air filter is real important to keep clean..mx bikes are not cheap at all to maintain properly.you should buy a bike that is designed for what your doing,,trust me bro I ride a mx bike in trails I know

I understand that most people will not me to buy a racing bike for the trails but I am going to anyways. @Sean when you say that the manual says every 5 hours what does that include? Is it just changing the oil and cleaning the air filter? Thanks again for the fast replies!!

if you're going to buy a MX bike for trails anyway, you will figure it out when you get your owners manual.. you're making a mistake, but I tryed to tell you.. go get it good luck... if you don't do proper maintenance you're going to have to keep messing with your valves.and topend... A MX bike on the trails is like a 4x4 jeep on a race track

I ride a mx bike on the trails, and it sucks. the gearing is wrong, the RPM's are wrong,it set uo for short circuit tracks.your going to hsve to put some money in it to get it trail friendly,it will stall alot n u going to ride clutch.
