$2,500 08 450 XCF - too good to be true?
  • I found a guy asking $2,500 for his '08 450 XC. The ad has no pictures of the bike and states the only problem is that the bike needs new clutch plates. I'm not sure if I should take a chance on this or not and I haven't had a chance to talk to the guy yet. Any advice?

I think you might have answered your own question in the title. Call the seller and don't just ask questions, grill him.

  • My thoughts exactly. I got pictures of the bike though. It looks clean, but the internals are what matter. Thanks for the help guys.

if you're going to meet him do it in a public place
  • Definitely will do. Still trying to decide if it's worth it though. Dude said he replaced the clutch basket and just never had time to do the plates too, which is kind of odd. He said he'd do 2 grand. See if I can't talk him down any more.

it might be a real good deal,, but if something sounds too good to be true it usually is, me personally I can't find myself to buy anything less I can test ride it, dude could just say the clutch plates are bad so you cant ride it and you replace the clutch plates only to find the tranny is shot, the only way I would buy this,, is if I could put it in shop to have them inspect everything, it only cost 100 or 150 bucks,

if it was me and I want the bike, I would call dude have him meet me at the shop, put it in the shop in his name for a complete inspection,if you can talk dude down on price then your not losing nothing.even at 2500 for a 08 you're not losing nothing. at least this way your insured on what your buying . you can ask him all the questions in the world, he'll just tell you what you wanna hear,

  • That's a good idea. I was thinking of something along those lines, but that's better. The other thing is the drive to pick it, though. It's like 800 miles away lol.

Then tell him if only clutch plates are bad to put in shop have that fixed and have a complete inspection done on your expense,,if anything else is wrong that is his expense,he can fax you the papers

just my few cents,,im always hearing somebody got ripped off, or the person that sold me a bike told me this was wrong but that was wrong.you know what I mean.this would be the only way I would buy this bike, it's kind of like a blind date
  • Yeah, I know man. Blind dates usually don't cost several thousand dollars though lol. I'm definitely going to tell him to have it looked at and send some paperwork on it before I drive all that way. Thanks for the advice man, pretty helpful tips.

Lol. There's always the option of having it shipped, but that just adds to how risky the whole situation is.
