Learning about transmissions on a junk engine.
  • I bought a 1987 Honda trx 125 engine that I could take apart and maybe educate myself on how a motorcycle transmission operates and how to rebuild one, a daunting task, I know, but anyone i know who knows how to work on things like this is unwilling to share any knowledge. Does anyone know of any YouTube videos or Internet resources that cover this sort of thing? Also, how does the clutch mechanism work on this engine? The clutch disengages when ever the shifter is moved to change gear and it is unlike anything that I have experience with.

BTW the clutch on that motor doesn't work by the throttle. you'll find it probably has 2 clutchs. one centrifugally driven and one manually actuated via a mechanism on the shifter.

its not a 2 minute job to tell you all about how motorcycle transmissions work and how to pull them apart and repair them. to be honest most people who know probably just cant be bothered to explain it when you could investigate it yourself and learn it much better
