what size dirt bike
  • hi im 16 and i really want a dirt bike but i have a limited budget. Ive been looking on craigslist and i found some xr100s and i was wondering if that would be an ok size for me. Once again im 16 and im about 6 feet tall 190 or so pounds. im not looking to do any track riding and this is just something to have fun on and do a little trail riding. Im also looking to spend less than 800 bucks and even that might be a little too much. it would have to be in very good condition and almost exactly what im looking for for me to spend that much. Thanks in advance!

Well that budget and "good condition " really not gona have both. Either ur gona get one or the other unless u buy a pitbike but ur way to big for that. At ur size an weight u want at least a 125 2 stroke, most would prolly say bigger. And at that budget you'd prolly be lucky to find 1980's sumthin 125. And it will most likely need every wear an tare part replaced.

Yeah marky is right 800 bucks will not get you a decent bike of the size you need.a fixer upper yeah, but you dont know what your buying and how much it will cost to fix it,buy a 2 stroke I would say a 125cc. but I would personally recommend save another 800 then go look for a bike

buy a pitster 125 or something google pitbike like Marky said, it's a deal sounds too good to be true, 99 percent of the time it is. I would say be patient keep saving your money at least another 8 for a 125. keep in mind the cost of maintenance

at your size, you will not be happy with nothing smaller than 125,save your money bud at least 1500
  • thank you for all your comments. the one i found on craigslist is a 2000 and in near perfect condition and is 750. for what i want it for would it really be that bad? my friend has an xr80 and though he weighs less than me he still has fun
  • 2000 meaning the year and $750
  • i just found an 88 xr200 for $800

my daughter is 10 years old, that's what she rides,Crf80 but close to the same, if you feel you will be happy on that bike and that's what you wanna do you're not going to listen to us.but I would recommend you to save more money up and buy a suitable bike, at least the 125 you're 6 foot tall and weigh 200 pounds, the crf450r is factory set for that weight,a 100 or a 80 is going to be a disappointment, too small it will ride you,but so will a 50 cc this is your decision your money,we told you what we think. if that's what your heart set on then go get it

the suspension, probably will not work out for you
  • it will ride too small meaning what (besides the suspension); too slow or low to the ground?
  • and i could get a larger/more tense spring for the rear suspension right?

yeah you can modify it,but it cost and I feel for all that just buy more suitable bike from the beginning.200cc will be a lot better. you got some size to you, you're young you're going to grow fast, I just thinking the near future you will be unhappy with that bike. but it's up to you, it's your money it's your decision, be patient save more money, buy a better bike
  • Is there a significant noise difference between the 100 and 200
  • is it bad if the front suspension doesnt have the squishy rubber protector things on it. and is it ok if the engine was rebored. this wouldnt have any bad effects would it?
  • imagesee no rubber protectors on the front suspension

The fork protectors aren't a big issue, just buy some for it if you buy the bike.    Or just ride with out them, plenty of people do.  They're only there to protect the tubes from stones and other trail debri.

If you can't fix it with vicegrips and/or a sledge hammer, it ain't worth fixing...

  • You could probably pick up an older kdx 250 or 200 for around 800. An xr 100 would be way to small.

  • Thanks everyone! And Suzuki the picture is an xr200 but my dad probably isn't going to let me get one :(

id get a kdx 220 my dad has a kx 250 and kdx 220 both run great so the kawasaki brand is reliable. He got his 2003 kdx for 1000 but that was from a family friend so he got a steal. You could probably get a 90's kdx for bout 800-900
