2006 honda crf250r, reddish-brown coolant
  • Hello, i have a 2006 honda crf250r, i was getting ready to change all of the fluids including the coolant and when i took off my radiator cap i noticed my coolant was a reddish-brown color, i am not sure what coolant was previously in it. I am NOT experiencing any overheating problems just decided it needed changed. My engine is runnung fine should i just change it and keep an eye on the color or be worried it is my water pump.

How did the tranny or engine oil looked like? If either one looks milky water is seeping into the tranny, and your water pump seal is bad.
  • My engine oil looks fine I havnt looked at my tranny yet, I will look at them and get back hopefully all is good
  • Ok now that i looked closer at the coolant i want to say that it is a orange coolant that was previously put in there, i will change it to pro honda hp coolant.

Thats what I would do,some people run regular antifreeze for cars in them,my brother put all kinds of off the wall stuff in his bikes, buy it can cause corrosion,

  • You may want to flush out your cooling system with distilled water to get all of the old orange coolant out. Mixing coolant can create an acidic sludge which can eat up engine and cooling system components.

replace the radiator cap as another precaution, cap seals, etc goo out too like in automobiles, do it every 3 seasons.
