It looks like I'll be heading down to So.Cal the week of March 12th to do some camping and riding in the desert.   This year we will be camping on the east side of the highway (395) near Cuddeback dry lake and Fremont peak.   Map and other details will be coming.   This is a roll call to see who is or isn't going to make it

Me too, Paul, I'll be waiting.  If you're gonna pick me up, we might as well swing past Bjorn as well.  (Lets face it, you're gonna need a couple of kiwis to knock Alex into shape.)   LOL

Its a registration sticker you get at the DMV. Maybe to some states you dont get stickers??? But in california your bike is ether a Red sticker or a green sticker bike.

Green = meets requirements as a safe off highway vehicle that can ride all year round in certified areas

Red = can only ride certain months of the year in off road sanctioned areas

To put it short. The cal city desert ride is in California city, CA off of the 395.

out-of-state bikes (like mine) are legal if they have that state's off-road sticker.   We are camping on the east side of Hwy 395 so there is no need for the Cal City special permit.   I'm not sure about your red sticker/green sticker rules.   Good to hear that you can make it Dag!   Will you be bringing the family as well?

Not all bikes get the same striker OK n CA, the more eco friendly bikes can rise year round with a green. The less Eco friendly bikes get a short season red sticker.
Paul, I will be coming alone.

The ages all vary but you will meet some of the nicest/coolest people on this trip if you make it. I am 18yrs old but it varies from teens to older adults. Alot of the group on the year I went was early 20's. Everyone is extremely nice and would help you out of a pinch if needed.

Ok so I took it one step further this year, and since I am doing the trip myself this year I wanted to make myself be comfortable So i picked up a sweet sleeping bag today, a blow up matress, and I just ordered this. (not the tuck the thing on the bed)
    image

its called a truck tent and I think its design is brilliant. So i am gonna give it a go and see how it does, I have heard nothing but positive stuff about the brand I bought and the quality. I already got all my sleeping and cooking arrangements now just trying to figure the menu for myself. anyways just wanted to update.

nice setup there Alex! I will be riding a different bike this year and letting Diane ride my 300.   The bike I will be riding is a 2006 KTM 250SXF that a friend of mine just bought.   It has a brand new engine.  He wants me to break it in and set it up for him (suspension) by riding it.  Pretty cool huh?

That's a great idea Alex - keeps you off the ground when it rains and you'll be safe from snakes and scorpions.

KTM made a tent a while back (2009ish?) that had a separate compartment for the bike which keeps it dry and safe from thieves. Apparently it wasn't too sucessful because I don't think they make it anymore. Must have weighed a ton!

Thanks hair! yeah it was just a random search I did, i just was looking for a tent and wondered if anyone made one that fit in a truck and sure enough theres a bunch of companies that do make them. I just started reaserching which ones were better than others and then I picked one. It will definatley be nice being off the ground. :) that idea KTM sounds really neat, and I agree must have weighted a ton for sure and been a pain to setup. lol

Sorry to hear it Dag.   If you wait too much longer (years) the 300 will no longer be around to ride.   I was in the dealer's shop the other day to look around and couldn't believe how drawn I was to the 4-strokes...that is, until I noticed the price tag...

I could take a brand new 300 home for $2,500.00 less than a new 350.  Not that I'm shopping for a new bike hahaha.  It's just fun to go in and sit on the new ones and day dream away

The only thing about the 4-strokes that appeals is the street legal aspect.  My 300 was the last year they made a street legal 2 stroke.   I agree with you NZ about the lack of torque.  I would miss the power band as well.

another thing that the center of US motocross (Temecula CA) doesn't have is a motorcycle dealership, odd.  You can't count Temecula Motoraports , they are a joke owned by a used car salesman.
