with my clutch on my rm 125, when you pull the clutch in and pop it into first it will just stall out unless your giving it gas, is that normal? because on every single machine ive ever ridden it can sit in first with the clutch pulled in an idle without giving it gas I'm new to the whole 2 stroke business and i don't think this should be happening

The basket's probably worn really bad.

How can I ensure that's the problem?

Drain the oil and look at the fingers.

Also the plates could be warped.

My bike does the same thing. Just give it gas an go. What's the point sitting around in 1st with clutch pulled in? I assumed it was just a characteristic of a two stroke. Could b wrong. I found once it warms up it will idle longer in 1st.

Your basket is most likely worn, you can take out the pressure plate springs and plate to file down the little grooves on the basket, but that is only a temporary fix and it will creep back up on you.

When that happens it usually means the plates are sticking together. That's why it stalls when you shift it into first.

Take the clutch pack out and pull them apart and inspect and measure them.
