2012 CRF 450r,,,, sometimes I have to kick it 30 times to get it to start, its fuel injected its new why is this so hard to start, cold start knob should I pull that then kick ? I usually start it then pull knob sometimes I think its not going to start, once I do get it started it will start rate up every time. any suggestions would be appreciated my manual says there's no need to put oil additives or gasoline additives in the bike, do you think I should put stabilizer in gas

    Pull fast idle knob

Move kickstart to tdc SUPER IMPORTANT

give nice smooth kicks all the way through

Mine always starts 2 kicks max

+1 on tdc. Works like a charm. It was something I had to figure out too after having to kick bike till I was pouring sweat a few times. You get tired of that real quick. And for sure pull out the choke. Tdc stands for top dead center.(piston position)

Thanks marky, it don't have a choke is fuel injected, well guess thats what it is but when I pull it then kick it makes some crazy noises dont seem like it likes it,ill give it a shot when I wake up tomorrow

at mx on the weekend i twice watched a guy spend like 2 minutes trying to kick start his 2013 crf450 on the line then his mate came and started it for him first kick. theres a technique to starting those things for sure.

    What Maple said.

Except for the fast idle knob, I never use that except in the middle of winter, maybe.

The TDC is the key though.   Gently push your kickstart down until it's hard, bring it back to the top and a decent smooth kick and you'll be away laughing.

Don't be ridiculous Maple!   You only ride for the two summer months of the year.  The rest of the year you spend with your bike polishing your knob.   (don't be disgusting, I meant his fast-idle-knob...  LOL)

I bet that KX hasn't seen the cold hard light of day for about 6 months now.   Can you even remember what it looks like?

My street bikes sit 6-7 mths at a clip sometimes. Had the one for 7-8 yrs now. Only thing really affected is the battery. Yes the injectors can get gummed up but I can't tell. Bike still knocks my socks off. I do try to start them every once in awhile. But when u got 5 vehicles to start periodically it kinda becomes a pita.
