Tensioning Chain???
  • Hi there. today i went to tension my chain, however didn't loosen the rear wheel axle nut(lost my socket and didn't have a shifter handy and thought might still be able to do it without loosening it). I still tightened the screws on the rear end of the swing arm to get em lined up on both sides with the notches and just kept hearing a clicking sound....what is the clicking sound out of curiosity and what would it of done?? lol
bike is still fine, runs well though.

To answer ur original question ydr.

Dont ever do that again on any machine. Thats a good way to break the adj. bolts or mess up the threads. The clicking u heard might have been the bolt breaking or threads ripping out or something else who knows? Loosen ur axle nut and inspect the adj. bolts and swingarm threads

  • well, i checked the bolts and also the swingarm threads...and everything was all good. they screwed out and in nicely. so i guess you were wrong. W.R.O.N.G. i ended up replacing the screws anyway. i rest my case.

Im confused as 2 wat u mean by "WRONG?"  U  asked a question. Our Resident TOP TECH Koby graciously tried 2 help u and then u bash him saying he's wrong??  What case r u resting??  Loosen ur chin strap buddy.

This is the way it works around here. U ask a question and we try 2 help.  The advice is supposed 2 b taken as a suggestion. Its not always the best answer, just a good place 2 look.  It should end up with a "thank u".  Try again.

How much slack is in the chain?
Im confused as to how you could line up axle blocks without loosening the axle nut. If you moved the axle blocks than your axle nut is not tight enough.
  • 2 fingers under the chain is how slack it is...which is the standard. i only moved the axle block on the side where the axle bolt isn't on...and it moved so not sure...that's prob why i didn't end up threading anything if the bolt wasn't done up tight enough. it only moved a fraction anyway...i inspected the axle nut today and its all good and also replaced the adjuster screws anyway..they all screwed in nicely. i do appreciate all the help and thank you but masterlink was getting smart in the 1st place and asking shit bout my mother

Yes another crash test dummie. Next time ask how to change oil without removing drain plug bolt. My advice is just make sure every bolt is barely finger tight then Ull never need another tool again.

we can start ova Yammie.  If u have loose bolts on ur bike thats not a good sign. Do ur best 2 get everything torqued 2 or close 2 spec. I didnt say anything aboot ur mother. 4 all I kno u could have been born of jackals, or worse from Canadians.  if u have any specific maintenance questions dont b afraid 2 ask. its the only way we can help. But dont think we're not gonna give u a hard time with it. Its how we roll. No offense.

Why do you need a "shifter" to loosen the axle nut?

get a sealed o ring chain if you dont wanna be tightening your chain every half hour. it'll save you money on chains and sprockets in the long run.
