Rode the KTMs

Went to the track Sat, my bike wouldn't start, I found out later that I had forgot to remove the paper towels I had placed in the airbox to keep trash out while cleaning the filter. lol
Anyway I got to ride a KTM 250sx all day, very smooth power, felt like the footpegs were furthar back which made you crouch over the tank like Poto, which felt very natural and balanced.
I spent an hour that afternoon on the 450SXF.  Totally different world, had to use the controls to guide the bike instead of my weight.  I was surprised when it wouldn't rev, it just got to a certain point in the RPMs and faded away.  The extra weight was a workout for the arms.  But it would come out of an uphill turn so easy.  I was happy to get back on the 2 stroke but I could see how this tug boat could come in handy on the trails.
I think I was going faster on the thumper but it seemed slower.  I think the 450 would be a better teacher of how to use the controls since that is what makes it work.
One finale point, I was amazed at how you could lift the front end of the 450 in mid air like a 747 coming in for a landing.  .
I guess I am a light weight and need a bike that weighs 214 instead of 240.

Of course I am joking about the tug boat thing, the 450 was awesome.  and I could tell there was alot more power there to be had!

  • Don't feel bad dag - last spring I took my bike off the stand where it sits all winter and I couldn't figure out why it kept bogging and dying even though it started right up evey time I kicked it.  Turns out I was in such a rush I forgot to take the muffler plug out of the exhaust.  After that it started and ran fine.  Good thing I figured it out by about the third kick - I wonder if it would have blown up if I kept trying to start it.
