Is a '13 Honda CRF250L capable of riding in Moab?
  • Subject says it all.

I'm a beginner rider. I've ridden quad's but never ridden a 2 wheeled motorcycle. I am an expert mountain biker so I expect to pick this new hobby up fairly quickly.

I would like to ride to work on the road, as well as to the trails in the foothills near Denver.

Occasionally I'd like the option to ride trails in Moab (and Crested Butte).

Is this bike capable of riding the terrain out there? My brother seems to think the suspension is a little on the weak side and may bottom out. If that is the case, is the suspension up-gradable?

I am not very tall or heavy (5'5" / 135lbs). This bike appeals to me since I feel fairly comfortable with the ride height vs. other bikes which are simply too tall.  I have no desire (at this time) to go to the track.

This seems like a good bike for the money and is pretty close to what I'm looking for. Just want to make sure it can handle more than roads and smooth trails.

    Thanks.

The latest mag has a review of the L. Sounds like it is best used as as a commuter.

Depends on the trails you ride t moab, If you are an expert Mtn Biker you will get bored with the L pretty fast.  The KTM duel sports are as close as you will get to a race redy duel sport, and will take you anywhere you want to go at Moab, wish i was going with you.  I hiked Moab once and was going nuts because i didn't have my bike there, it is an awesome off road vacation!

  • Thanks for the answers. Sounds like I should be looking at the CRF250X or WR250F.

Heading to my local shop tomorrow to put my leg over them. Probably will buy used...but I've got all winter to find something I like.
  • Dont listen to crwoods he doesnt actually ride and gives out false information that could result in you getting hurt.
