rare cagiva? and clutch cover wont come off
  • hey everyone, i am a complete noob to this forum but have been riding for the last while. i got a dirt bike off a friend to do up for him, its a cagiva 125.... but thats all i can find out about it... im going to put up a picture of it to see if you can help identify it and the frame number doesnt take the normal form of 2 letters and 4 numbers...

and aswell as that the water pump seals are rotten and is letting water get into the oil which isnt good at all, so i went to take it off and i was told i have to take off the clutch cover to take out the water pump, so i was doing that but it was jammed on!! spent about an hour wriggling it off but it will only get about 5mm out round the top left side and the bottom right wants to come off so it feels like the water pump isnt letting it come off. after looking up a few videos about it on other makes of bikes ( because i couldnt find any on cagiva) they have a bolt in the middle of the propeller... mine doesnt. so is it ment to screw off, or is the bolt broken off or am i not taking the cover off right? or even in identifying the bike!!

heres a site a found from the makers of the bike, maybe you could call and see if they still make parts and what not. : http://www.mvagusta.it/

    and heres a little history:

Cagiva is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. It was founded in 1950 by Giovanni Castiglioni in Varese, originally producing small metal components. It went into the motorcycle industry in 1978. The name is a portmanteau derived from the founder and the founding location, i.e. CAstiglioni GIovanni VArese. In 1999 for strategic purposes, the company was restructured. MV Agusta Motor became the main brand comprising Cagiva and Husqvarna.[1] The company currently operates under the name MV Agusta Motor S.p.A..

In 1978 Cagiva entered the motorcycle business with two racing motorcycles ridden by Gianfranco Bonera and Marco Lucchinelli. In the same year it bought a factory in SchirannaVarese from AMF-Harley Davidson and went into motorcycle production. By 1979 the company reached an annual production of 40,000 motorbikes, with eight models powered by two-stroke engines ranging from 125 cc to 350 cc.

anyways thats the best i got for now. Hope this some what helps

  • ya that was helpful and i seen that video when trying to research it, but mine has to be way older then that, mine has drum breaks, no lights and just recently i found a spot for a key to the right of the handle bars going drictly into the frame, no sure where the wires are going to because its working just fine without them. the exhaust is also on the other side. and i was trying to match it up to a model using stats, they were saying for most of the 125 bikes they reach a top speed of about 80 mph, well the other day i was racing my friend in his car and he got to 75mph before he had to back off (bad roads) but i had another gear left and wasnt giving it wide open throttle!! and whats very strange on this bike compared to any other bike i have seen is the radiator being on the handle bars!!!

im thinking this was modified to be a racing bike, the restrictor taken out and the radiator moved for better engine cooling... what do you think?
  • U were drag racing a 1980s bike doin 120 km/hr? I dont think that really happened. Ur probly lucky it didnt rattle loose and kill you. B safe
