yea, loosen the axle nut, tighten the adjuster bolts until you reach the required tension. check the wheel alignment to the front sprocket. torque axle nut. recheck chain tension and wheel alignment.

@Felix, Baja designs lights will work on a CR250, but you'll need a new stator, it comes in a kit.
  • Hi I have a powercore 2 on my cr250 and I want to get it repacked but not sure when. Is their any way of knowing when a silencer needs repacking? aside from noise.

When is obnoxiously loud. If you run the right jetting it will last longer, rich jetting causes spooge and will saturate the packing.
  • Damn my Cr spooges pretty bad

100:1 will smoke less but will wear faster. its all a  compromise. personally i prefer the protection of 32:1. it'll smoke less if you learn to ride it harder

  • Felix, go to motosport.com, they should have hand guards that fit your bike. Also, if your bike is smoky, make sure you're running a 32:1 mixture and that your silencer isn't soaked with oil. The guy you bought it from shouldn't have welded it on, it should be held on by just a bolt and nut. To re-pack the silencer, take it off the bike, and take off the bottom screws. They should be alan screws, they are the side opposite the exhaust tip. Buy silencer packing from motosport or your local shop. (like $10 total) you may need a mallet to get it off, but all you have to do after you take the screws out is tap it on the bottom and the top should come off. Take out the old packing and throw it away. Clean the insides of the silencer and wipe up any oil and residue, and take a wire brush and scrub the powercore. (looks like a metal grate) Then, simply take your exhaust packing and wrap it tightly around the powercore. Once you're done, take 2 small piece of masking tape (probably 4" long each) and tape the top and bottom of the bundle you made with the packing to keep it tight. Then, just put the top back on and put the screws back in. Helps with noise, smoking, and oil spewing! Very easy to do!
  • Thanks man! Best advice Ive gotten here in a long time!

Felix, if the bike still oozes spooge after repacking the silencer I would adjust the carburetor to lean it out.  The first place to start is the needle IMO.  Lowering the needle will lean out the mixture from 1/8 to 1/2 of the throttle range.   To lower the needle, you need to RAISE the clip.  Do you know how to remove the throttle slide and needle to do this adjustment?   If not I can explain it if you need.   If the bike runs rich on the top end (at full throttle position) then going a size or two smaller on the main jet is the fix you need.    Whenever I am changing the jetting around, I only do one thing at a time and test ride it a LOT before moving to the next level.   Remember that when you change the needle you also need to go back and reset the air screw to the original position (I think it should be 1-1/2 to 2 turns out for your bike).  I rarely make any changes to the pilot jet.   By the way, keep your fuel mixture at 32:1 and jet to that.

Felix, sounds like your bike carb setting is rich, lean the pilot jet one or 2 sizes from stock and lower the needle one clip (move clip up 1 notch). If you are less than 1000 ft. elevation leave the stock main jet alone otherwise drop one size.
  • Thanks gearman

  • guys I have a major problem with my cr250. My chain was very loose so I tried tightening it and I noticed the screw on my left swingarm was extremely tight. Despite all the liquid wrench and everything I tried to move it, it barely budged. I was able to add a bit of tension to the chani but only by adding spacers to both sides of the swing arm. the spacers recently fell off and now I dont know what to do. the screw I believe is rusted so I simply cant get it to move and have thought about taking links off the chain. If I did so I would need a half link to link the chain. What should I do? were can I get a half link? thanks guys. Chers.

Have you tried heating the chain adjuster bolt before unscrewing it ?

  • I applied a lot of liquid wrench and wd40 but I haven't heated it up

Apply some heat to the aluminum part so that it will expand, giggle the bolt with a wrench to break it loose (careful no to snap it).

  • Should I apple heat on the side of the swingarm, to the screw, or to were it goes in the swingarm?

Yes, to the swing arm around the bolt, use a heat gun. Try also tapping back and forth a 10mm wrench on the bolt head, with a hammer (carefully) to break it loose.
  • What size chain should I get for the new chain to be tight? How many pins?

Depends on the gearing, the way I do it is to move the rear wheel as far forward as the adjustment will allow, then wrap the chain around both sprokets, conecting at the rear sproket. then see how many full links you need to cut. If you do it yourself buy a chain cutting tool. Or just bring the bike to the shop where you bought the chain, and they will cut it.

Not if you keep it to around 350 F, takes about a minute with a torch or heat gun.

If there a piece sticking out grab it with a pair of visegrips or weld another bolt to it. Remove discard. Or take otherside bolt off. Take it to home depot find same or similar bolt in thread size an length. Find a hole tap for that bolt. Drill out bolt in swingarm, using drill bit slightly smaller than hole, tap hole. If u don't know how to tap a hole Google it or YouTube it.
  • The thing is a part is sticking out but I can't get a grip on it with a vise because if its angle. I can grip but not twist. Getting a new bolt is not my concern but rather getting out the one that's stuck.

Like I said weld another bolt onto what sticking out. Or take swingarm off take it somewhere and have them remove it. Or get a bolt extractor kit. Or my favorite trick is to find a star key that is about half the diameter of the bolt. Drill hole in the end of bolt like 1/16 smaller than star key. Beat star key into that hole with a hammer. Unscrew using star key. I know this works BC I just did it the other day. What I don't understand is with a chain tensioning bolt there usually a nut to lock it in place. Is this the case? If so have you removed this nut? Like I said if all else fails you may need to drill bolt out of hole using a metal cutting drill bit. Or you could save yourself alot of hassle an buy used swingarm off eBay for like 40$. Besides what has been said there really is very few more options.

You could try grinding a straight slit across end of snapped part of bolt and use flat screw driver to remove.
