Crf 230 losing oil
  • Hi im 13 and I'm new to dirt rider. I need some help with my 2007 crf 230f. It is losing a considerable amount of oil. I rode it for 2 hours and it's down to 1/4 of a tank. It doesn't smoke and I can't find any leaks. I haven'y noticed any loss in power either. Do I need a top end? Are there any test i can do to find the problem? Any comments are appreciated thanks, Brian

Could it be leaking out of the countershaft seal?  Behind the front sprocket.

If it's not smoking that would be my immediate suspicion.

I'd be inclined to keep a good eye on the oil level if you ride it in the meantime.

  • I just got someone to tear it apart today, and he said the rings were shot and the cylindrer needs to be honed.

  • I'm gonna get a 240cc bbr big bore kit with cam, and a pro circuit T-4 pipe cause my pipe is jacked up.the big bore kit only bores it to 233 cc my bike is 224cc. Will the kit beef up my bike noticeable the piston is a wiseco 11:1 and the stock piston is 9:1. The bike not be worth what I'm putting into it, but it's worth it to me.

a bump in compression that big will make a noticable difference, the oversize is small but will make a difference.

I think the key to getting good results from these upgrades will be jetting the carb properly to work with them.

  • Yeah I'm definitely rejetting it, the bbr site tells me what jets I should put in it. The cam should make a difference too right? The stock cams in these bikes are very mellow. Thanks.
