Yz 125 eating plugs
  • I own a 1999 yz 125 I have changed everything on this bike including new cylinder and piston rings from Athena. Running great with stock piston I was running 50:1. I just changed my piston rings to wisco piston and added fmf fatty gold running it at 30:1. I have been raising the needle and adjusting the air screw and I can't get it right so it doesn't eat plugs it. Like when I hit power band and when it gets to the power band for a little it skips. when I check my spark plug my step dad says its running way to hot and i don't know it I have to change my jet or what?

why do you think its the plugs. could be too lean and detonating to cause the engine "skip" on powerband. if the plug is truely getting too hot then lean detonation is a very real possibility.

  • I would check the carb, same thing happened to my 02 yz125 and i did a carb clean and now my spark plugs are fine
  • It could be rich, my brother's kdx 250 burned through plugs cause it's way to rich. We leaned it out and now it's fine. I don't know alot about 2 strokes though, so i may be wrong. It's probably something else though if it's running hot.

If you're gonna be stupid, you gotta be tough.
