rm 250 idle problem

    That's strange.. I'll have to think on it some more.

    I want to say things like 'check the pilot circuit' and 'double check the float height'... But I'm not convinced either is the problem...

    i have a 98 rm 250 starts up great runs great just idles super high ive cleaned the carb new air filter etc. the idle screw doesnt have an effect wether its screwed all the way in or all the way out any suggestions on what might be causing this very high idle?

    My first thought is that it could be the throttle cable adjustment...

    With the motor off, if you open the throttle and let it snap shut, do you hear the slide 'clack' shut in the carburetor? You should..

    If it's not that.. Does that bike have an adjustable choke knob? One that 'clicks' as you turn it? That may be turned too far out, if you do have one..

    you can hear it clack so its not that and my choke is an up and down slide choke

    If everything is okay in the carb, I can think of just one thing that can cause a high idle. Crank seal on the flywheel side could be worn out letting extra air through. I have seen this on a few bikes. Just a guess though. It could still be something in the carb though.

    pull the stator cover off and check for water i have a 96 rm250, had the same idle problem and there was a cup of water inside the stator, dried it out and now g2g.
