what to do with bike without a title?
  • I had the same problem with the Honda I recently bought. The requirements may be different in your state than mine, but here is what I did: Step 1- Go to department of Motor Vehicles to get a form to do this. Step 2- Take the bike and the form to the sheriff's office or a friendly nearby highway patrol officer, who can do a trace on the VIN, and verify that it is clean (not stolen property). They can fill in the form. Step 3- Take the completed form back to the DMV to obtain a clean title. It is pretty simple really.

Bear in mind that if the bike is stolen, you should be willing to give it up to its rightful owner, but that in most cases they can't track down the previous owner.

    I hope this helps....
  • I got a rm 125 from my friend. He got the bike but they didnt have a title and now its mine how can i get the title? and do i have to trase down the bill of sale from the original owner? I really want to ride in trails and stuff but i cant without the TITLE PLZ help. Also I know you cant have a car in your name till you are 16 is it the same with dirt bike?

    Pauls right.

In Mass, all u have 2 du is register the bike. $40 for 2 years. If it matches a stolen VIN they will contact u (pretty quickly hahaha) I'm pretty sure that they dont go to great lengths to trace the bikes history, if it doesnt show up right away in the database that its stolen usually thats where it ends. Most agencies dont have the time or man power to trace vehicle histories.

Off road bikes are easier to reg than on road. When I took my sons bike in to reg they checked the vin, looked it up on the computer to see if it had been reg before and gave me the reg. AS long as there is not a lien holder on the bike and it is not stolen they will work with you.

yea i still have to do the IT400 :o dagg didnt you say the most you could pay up to is 3 years of reg right. Like if the bike hasnt been reg in lets say 10yrs they will only make me pay for 3 at the most right? or is it more? :?

I got my 91rm125 from a bud an got no title, regs, or bill of sale. I ride in mojave and the AV here in cali so i dont plan on registering it, but one thing u SHOULD do is call on the PHONE, (so u dont waste time drivin, gas, or be involved with road rage) the DMV and have them run the VIN. if its been to long it wont even be in the system. therefore u lessen the worry of going to the DMV or sheriffs and them telling u the bike was stolen.
