Shift shaft seal replacement - 2000 Yamaha YZ 125
  • mvonhattenThanks for the quick response, after its out, is there a special procedure for replacing the new one? Should I just find a socket that fits the seals diameter and give it a few good taps?
exactly, slide it on with your fingers then tap it in using a socket that contacts the outer edges of the seal. use some light oil to help it slide over the shaft

when removing, pry between the shaft and the seal, not between the seal and the case.
  • Hello everyone.

I've conducted a search online, and in the forums, for a reliable piece of information that would explain the process of replacing the shift shaft seal on a YZ 125... and found nothing.

So I've attached a picture of the seal that's causing all this oil leaking and ruining my chances of riding.

Could someone please confirm or deny about taking the case apart to replace this seal? I've also read that a small screwdriver with light pressure will pop it out. Anyone with advice, please respond.

    Thanks.

yes you can pop the seal out.. be very carefull not to gouge the cases and create another leak.

  • I used your advice, the seal came off after some light prying with a very small flat head screw driver. The socket thing wasn't working, so I used the back end of pliers and GENTLY applied pressure until the seal was in place. I just filled it up with oil, I'll check tomorrow morning for leaks.

    Edit: The leak stopped!!!!!!
