We were trail riding and all of a sudden my son lost power in the upper range of his throttle. I narrowed it down to a power valve issue quickely. When i took off the the linkage cover I found the vetical link had broke right in the middle. I checked the power valve & it did not seem to bind. we wired the valve so he would have low & mid range to get back.

I replaced the linkage, disassembled & reassembled the governer.
Now the bike has full power all the way to about 3/4 throttle then the rpm cap off and then it boggs down. I took it apart twice to make sure I had it together correctly. & it seems to be. The only thing I can think of is if the power valve has an adjustment for the linkage. My manual shows a spot were a tool goes in to hold the valve in position when tightening the linkage down but it does not exist on mine. The cylinder # matches for the year too!
    I am totaly perplexed!!
  • man... i have the same story for you except i replaced the top end on mine and now i have a problem with my power valves and there brand NEW so ya i have no clue man

what year are we talking about here? i think this is waht u will find....when your linkage broke it allowed the power vavle to move to an incorect spot...thus when u put the new linkage back on the valve was still in the wrong spot...ok so mine is an 83 should be the same till about 87...maybe higher..look at the right side of the bike take off that little cover for the valve..see the allan bolt that holds the valve together? you want that centered at the top(u will have to unhook the linkage again)i'm pretty sure this is what u need to do for all years...i will look back to see how u r doing.
Keep your feet on the pegs, and your right hand cranked!!
